Why Choose Home Support from the Evergreen Care Trust?

When I took over the Home Support service last year, I knew I was stepping into something special—but I didn’t truly realise just how special until I had the privilege of getting to know the incredible team behind it and the wonderful Members we support in the community.

Over the past few months, I’ve been out visiting staff during their calls, seeing them in action alongside the people they support. What I witnessed left me feeling deeply proud. The care, dedication, and genuine companionship they offer was clear not just in the quality of their work, but in the smiles on the faces of our Members.

These visits inspired me to share more about what sets our Home Support service apart—and why Evergreen’s model of paid support is so unique.

What is Evergreen Home Support?

Our Home Support team is often the first point of contact for someone who may have lived independently their whole life but now finds certain tasks a little harder than before. Sometimes, it's because of a recent bereavement, or they may simply need a helping hand and a friendly face on a regular basis.

This is where we step in.

We’re not a care agency—we’re a Charity-run service designed to provide practical help and meaningful companionship. Whether it’s helping with the housework, changing bed linen, doing the laundry, preparing meals, or supporting someone with their weekly shop, our aim is to make life a little easier and a lot more connected.

And it’s not just about ticking off tasks. Some of our Members enjoy getting out and about with their Home Support worker—doing the food shop together, enjoying a stroll through town, or simply catching up over a coffee. That time together can mean so much.

Working Alongside Other Care Services

For some of our Members who already receive personal care, we provide complementary support. While care workers assist with physical or medical needs, our Home Support workers focus on keeping the home clean, tidy, and welcoming—and perhaps most importantly, providing conversation and company.

Continuity and Connection

One of the things we’re most proud of is the continuity we offer. Each Member has their own allocated Home Support worker who visits at the same time, on the same day, each week. This consistency builds trust and allows for meaningful, long-term relationships to grow—relationships that enrich the lives of both our Members and our staff.

Our Mission and Values

Our goal is simple: to help people remain in their homes for longer, while feeling supported, seen, and valued. Our team of around 15 trained and dedicated Home Support workers are passionate about making a real difference every day. They go above and beyond—not because it’s expected, but because it’s who they are.

At the heart of all we do are the Christian foundations on which Evergreen was built: dignity, respect, service, and compassion. We honour and promote healthy aging, and we’re here to support each Member in living well, whatever that may look like for them.
