Why Volunteer with Evergreen?

What is our shels sERVICE?

This service provides hot, freshly prepared meals directly to the homes of clients in Stamford, offering not only practical support but also caring social interaction. Working in partnership with Second Helpings, Evergreen volunteers deliver to people who are housebound, socially isolated or vulnerable, ensuring they receive a nutritious meal and the comfort of seeing a regular friendly face. Deliveries are usually completed in pairs, with new volunteers shadowing experienced drivers to build confidence and consistency.

about the role

Volunteer drivers play a vital part in supporting older members of our community by delivering meals along an assigned route and offering a warm, compassionate presence at the doorstep. Alongside delivering meals, volunteers help brighten someone’s day through friendly conversation and a reassuring check‑in. Drivers are also responsible for keeping simple records of each journey, including mileage, date, time and purpose, and for reporting any concerns to the Volunteer Services Manager or Delivery Service Lead Volunteer. All necessary equipment is provided, and mileage can be reimbursed.

requirements

Volunteers must have access to a roadworthy, insured vehicle with valid MOT and tax, and hold a full driving licence. Insurance providers should be notified that the vehicle is being used for volunteer deliveries. Drivers should feel confident following delivery routes and be able to engage with clients in a friendly, kind and compassionate manner. Volunteers are expected to follow all current health and safety protocols for meal delivery, wear their Evergreen ID badge so clients can easily recognise them, and work professionally as part of a supportive team. Above all, volunteers should uphold Evergreen’s values and represent the charity with warmth, respect and care.

At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!
