Why Volunteer with Evergreen?

What OUR HAND & nAIL cARE sERVICE?

At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!

Our Hand & Nail volunteers offer a delightful treat to older and vulnerable people living in local care homes. This much‑loved service provides gentle pampering, friendly conversation and a meaningful moment of connection — often giving residents a real lift in their day. It’s a chance for someone to enjoy one‑to‑one company while taking part in a simple, enjoyable activity that feels special and personal.

Nail Color Selection

role requirements

Hand & Nail volunteers are expected to keep all records honest and accurate, and to follow the procedures and Health & Safety guidance of any care home they visit. Maintaining appropriate boundaries and understanding the limits of the role is essential, as is raising any concerns with the Volunteer Manager and upholding confidentiality unless explicit permission is given to share information. Volunteers also uphold the values of the Evergreen Care Trust in every interaction.

No formal qualifications are required — what matters most is being friendly, caring, honest and open, a good listener, reliable and observant. Having your own transport can be helpful, though it isn’t essential.

Manicure Session Close-Up

hours and training

Hand & Nail volunteers usually give two hours every two weeks at a local care home, and all equipment is provided for you. Volunteers receive full training to deliver a simple hand massage and manicure, helping you feel confident and comfortable in the role.

Mandatory online safeguarding training is completed before you begin, followed by the opportunity to shadow an experienced Hand & Nail volunteer. You’ll also receive regular updates and ongoing support from the Hand & Nail Team, along with invitations to attend relevant training courses as they are arranged.

How to get in touch?

Post Covid, we are again wanting to build up our team of trained Hand & Nail volunteers so that they can provide this lovely service again in our member's own homes. This highly valued and very popular treat offers one to one chat time, an enjoyable experience often considered a great little ‘pick me up’. It a chance for our members to enjoy appropriate physical contact whilst participating in a fun activity.
