Why Volunteer with Evergreen?
What is community support?
Evergreen supports a large number of elderly and vulnerable people in our local community. We often receive one off ‘help requests’ from the people we serve. The ‘help requests’ are put out to our Community Support Volunteers, who if they are available and have the skills required, the Community Support Volunteers step forward to meet these requests for help. Help requests are varied and could be someone needing a lift to a doctor’s appointment or help putting up a shelf or support with their garden.
At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!

Role requirements
As a Community Support Volunteer, you’ll respond to members’ help requests whenever you’re available and feel confident carrying out the task. Once a request has been completed, you’ll update the Volunteer Services Manager or Evergreen reception so we can keep everything running smoothly. Volunteers are expected to follow all Health & Safety guidance, uphold the values of the Evergreen Care Trust, and represent Evergreen in a friendly and professional manner at all times.
No specific skills are required — you simply take on the tasks you feel comfortable and competent to do. What matters most is strong communication, a warm and approachable manner, and feeling confident engaging with older and vulnerable people.

hours & training
Hours for this role are ad hoc and take place in residents’ homes, depending on when help requests come in and when you’re available. All volunteers complete mandatory online safeguarding training, and you’ll be supported throughout by the Volunteer Services Manager. Most help requests are simple and self‑explanatory — such as giving someone a lift or assisting with a small task — and don’t require specific training, just a willingness to help and confidence in the tasks you choose to take on.
How to apply?
Help requests are varied and could be someone needing a lift to a doctors appointment or help putting up a shelf or a little light assistance with their garden. Whilst the calls for help are 'ad hoc' the help is always appreciated by our members. If transport is required, volunteers can claim mileage which the member pays.
