cLEAN & dECLUTTER

Why Volunteer with Evergreen?

What is our cLEAN & dECLUTTER sERVICE?

The purpose of the Clean Team is to restore dignity, order and cleanliness to the home of an older or vulnerable person whose living environment has, for any number of reasons, become overwhelming or fallen into squalor. With the resident’s full consent, the Clean Team carries out a one‑off deep‑clean “blitz” to create a safe, clean and manageable space once again. This transformation often gives the resident a significant emotional lift, helping them regain a sense of control over their home and daily life. After the initial clean, we work alongside the resident to explore longer‑term support where possible.

This volunteer role can be physically demanding and may involve working in challenging or unpleasant environments. However, it is also incredibly rewarding. Volunteers see first‑hand the immediate, practical difference their efforts make to someone’s quality of life and wellbeing, offering a fresh start and renewed confidence to those who need it most.

rOLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Clean Team volunteers are expected to follow all Health & Safety guidance, wear the correct personal protective equipment, and avoid taking any unnecessary risks or carrying out tasks they feel uncomfortable with. It’s essential that nothing is removed or thrown away without the resident’s permission, and that confidentiality is maintained at all times. Volunteers should engage with clients in a compassionate, sensitive and diplomatic manner, always upholding the values of the Evergreen Care Trust.

No specific experience is required, though the work is physically demanding, so a reasonable level of fitness is important. A passion for cleaning is a bonus, and the ability to identify potential hazards, follow safety instructions for equipment and cleaning products, and work well as part of a team is essential.

rOLE rEQUIREMENTS

All Clean Team volunteers complete compulsory online safeguarding training, and where needed, will also receive guidance in using industrial cleaning equipment, handling chemicals safely, and lifting or moving small pieces of furniture. You’ll be supported throughout your volunteering journey with mentoring from Lead Members and regular opportunities to build your confidence and skills.

Hours are fully flexible, with most volunteers giving around one session per month for three to four hours. All safety equipment and PPE are provided, and volunteering takes place in residents’ homes, ensuring you always feel prepared, protected and supported in the role.

At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!
