Why Volunteer with Evergreen?
What is our shels sERVICE?
Evergreen, in partnership with Second Helpings, launched SHELS (Second Helpings Evergreen Lunch Support) in November 2023. This weekly service brings a freshly prepared hot meal straight to your doorstep if you live in Stamford or Ryhall. It’s a simple, friendly way to make sure you have something warm, nutritious and comforting to enjoy — especially on days when cooking feels difficult.

aBOUT THE TEAM
Your meal is delivered by Evergreen’s trained and DBS‑checked team, who bring not only a hot lunch but also a friendly face at the door. Many people tell us that the brief chat and personal connection are just as valuable as the meal itself. Since launching, SHELS has continued to grow and now supports many older people who appreciate both the practical help and the kindness behind it. All meals are freshly prepared on the day by the wonderful team at Second Helpings, ensuring you receive a nutritious, home‑cooked dish each week.

who the service helps
SHELS is designed for those who need it most — people who may be housebound, socially isolated, vulnerable, bereaved, or recovering from illness or surgery. It’s especially helpful if you’re finding it hard to shop, cook, or keep on top of daily tasks. A hot meal and a regular visit can make a real difference to your wellbeing, confidence and sense of connection.
At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!
