Why Volunteer with Evergreen?
What is chaplaincy?
Life brings moments when we all need someone to talk to — someone who will listen with patience, kindness and without judgement. Our Listening & Chaplaincy Service exists to offer exactly that: a calm, confidential moments for anyone who feels overwhelmed, worried, or simply in need of a compassionate ear.
At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!

The chaplaincy team
Our chaplaincy volunteers bring a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of what it means to walk alongside someone during difficult times. Each volunteer is trained, DBS‑checked, and committed to offering empathy, reassurance and steady support. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but share the same heart for people — creating a safe, respectful environment where individuals can speak openly about whatever they’re carrying. Everything shared is treated with complete confidentiality, giving you the freedom to talk honestly, knowing your thoughts and feelings will remain private.

how we can help
Our team is here for anyone who needs space to talk through grief, stress, uncertainty, or personal challenges. Support might look like a gentle conversation, a listening ear during a tough week, or simply having someone sit with you when things feel heavy. We welcome people of all backgrounds, beliefs and experiences, offering time, understanding and connection when it’s needed most. Whether you’re seeking clarity, comfort or just someone who will truly listen, our chaplaincy volunteers are here to help you feel heard, supported and valued. We support people of the Christian Faith, no-Faith, and signpost to other Faiths.
Where we host this service
We understand how important it is to have a quiet, safe and comfortable space to talk openly about your worries, challenges or personal circumstances. That’s why we offer this service in a range of settings, giving you the freedom to choose the environment that feels right for you. Whether you prefer the familiarity of your own home, the calm of our community space, a private room at our Evergreen office, or even your place of worship, we will meet you where you feel most at ease. Our aim is to create a supportive, confidential space where you can be heard, understood and guided with compassion.

Prayer Requests
Evergreen welcomes prayer requests of any kind — whether they feel big, small or somewhere in between. As part of our commitment to whole‑person care, we believe that prayer can offer comfort, hope and strength during difficult moments, as well as a space for gratitude and reflection. If you would like our Prayer Network to pray for you, your family or someone you know, you can share your request with us and we will email it to our trusted network of volunteers who pray regularly for the Evergreen community. Every request is treated with sensitivity and respect, and you are welcome to share as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable with.
