Volunteering with Advocacy

Why Volunteer with Evergreen?

What is aDVOCACY?

The Advocacy role can be very rewarding; it’s a way of getting involved in supporting your local community and making a difference. It can give you the chance to feel valued, learn new skills, be part of a team and meet new people.  An Advocate means giving support to another person to help them access information and advice; enabling them to express their views and wishes and to remain independent and in control of their daily affairs.

At The Evergreen Care Trust we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who help deliver services across the local community so that older members of our community are supported and cared for. Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, it's also a way of meeting new people, developing new skills and being a part of a warm and supportive community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you!

Role requirements

As an advocate, you will offer calm, compassionate and practical support to the person seeking help. This includes listening carefully to their views and concerns, helping them explore their options and rights without any pressure, and providing clear information so they can make informed decisions. You may assist with completing application forms, help them contact relevant people or make contact on their behalf, and accompany them to meetings to offer reassurance and support. Throughout every step, confidentiality is maintained unless the person gives explicit permission to share information, and support is always offered in a non‑judgemental, respectful way that upholds the values of the Evergreen Care Trust.

No formal qualifications are required for this role. What matters most is strong communication skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and a caring, honest and understanding approach. It’s helpful if you can build positive relationships, solve problems creatively and seek out useful resources. Basic IT skills and access to your own transport would also be beneficial

Hours & Training

This role is primarily based at our Evergreen office, with occasional visits to residents’ homes when support is needed. Hours are fully flexible to suit your availability, and we’ll work with you to ensure the role fits comfortably around your other commitments.

All advocates complete compulsory online safeguarding training, followed by an introduction session to the role, the chance to shadow an experienced Advocate, and regular updates and support from the Advocacy Team. You’ll also be invited to attend relevant training courses as they arise, helping you feel confident, informed and well‑supported in your volunteering journey.
